  • Hatha yoga is characterised by its static postures and slower pace which helps to build physical strength and mental resilience. There is great focus on the breath, controlled movements, and postural alignment. Although less dynamic than vinyasa this does not mean that this practice is less challenging.

  • Vinyasa means “to place in an intentional or specific way” in Sanskrit. In this practice postures are intelligently strung together so that you flow from one to another seamlessly using your breath. A dynamic practice that cultivates strength and focus through movement.

  • Yin yoga helps to release deeply held tension in the body through passive, longer-held poses usually performed on the ground using props. It targets our connective tissue –ligaments, joints, bones, and fascial networks of the body. By stretching and compressing the body in this way it also enhances energy flow in the meridians (the energy channels of the body that connect to your vital organs).

  • Prāṇāyāma is one of the core practices of Haṭha yoga. It is the practice of consciously conducting your breath and prāṇa (vital energy). Pranayama encompasses breathing exercises that help to cleanse and purify your body. It is an extremely powerful tool for stabilising the mind.

  • Meditation is the state of abiding peace that arrises through sustained concentration on a single object like the breath. In its purest form during meditation the mind is focused toward its resting place, its origin, “the centre of our being.” Over time, meditation teaches us to detach from from reflexive, discursive thinking and enhances our attention and awareness. The outcome of this is relaxation, and a heightened sense of inner calm and clarity.

  • Yoga Nidra, known as “psychic sleep,” is a systematic practice that guides practitioners into a state of profound relaxation while maintaining awareness. This unique state induces a shift in brain wave activity, favouring the production of alpha and theta waves. This allows healing and restoration to take place on a physical, emotional and mental level, making yoga nidra a powerful practice for reducing stress, anxiety and insomnia.
